Wouldn't it be great if instead of looking for new powers to surveil & punish the small number of benefits fraudsters, the Govt. sought such measures to deal with tax evaders - but oh no, once again a 'difficult decision' has been made to focus on the poor & vulnerable while the rich run rings round the tax authorities....

Well, frankly one less rentier trying to skew the politics of the country in the interest of the financial services industry & their rich clients, sounds like a small bit of positive news to me!

May more bankers who think tax is merely for the 'small people' leave in his wake - good riddance to them!

The UK's 1790s canals transported heavy or fragile goods. Now, canals mean leisure, recreation, fitness, mental health, beauty, waterside property value (tax), wildlife, eco-diversity, tourism.

Each cope stone originally was 18 inches (45 centimeters) wide and deep, with variable lengths of over 2 feet (about ¾ meters). The pink cement doesn't match the darker grey stone. Right photo: An unrepaired lock chamber wall that has 2 issues. First, below the cope stones a course (row) of brick is gone—about 10 or 11 bricks. Steel boats weighing many tonnes smash the bricks, which crack and wear away over time. Second, from the cope stones down over meter (over a yard) is a crack, caused by subsidence, possibly from a slow leak. Mortar has washed out of the jagged crack, which is easily wide enough to insert the fingers of a hand, all down the vertical length of the crack.

The bottom 10 percent of households by income, for example, would spend 4% of their disposable income on tariffs, while the top 10 percent will only pay 1.6%.

If the tariffs bring on a recession, low-income communities will suffer the most!

During the Great Recession between 2007 and 2009, the number of people living below the poverty line increased by nearly 5 million.
