Attached is a copy of a NixOS (extended) config I am working on for newbies.
The basic config (not attached) does not have Virtual Box, Podman, Distro Box, Ad Guard, iVPN, or Tuta E-mail.
Naturally, the basic config will be the 1st choice, with explanation as to why someone may want the 2nd, even if to use it as an example.
This is still not finished. I need to include both the option for Intel and Nvidia driver support. Naturally, those will be commented out in the final version, outlining the user to pick and enable what they want.

Quite good "why Nix for DevOps" video that compares Nix to Docker Compose for development
Any #NixOS users out there with a working disko config (native encryption) that they successfully installed from semi-recently?
The one I had been using for a long time seems to no longer work - specifically when used to deploy NixOS as a clean installation..
Was hoping to compare mine to one that someone else has recently been able to deploy - just as I know ZFS with native encryption is a not particularly "popular" setup!
Finally i got #HeadPlane working with my #Nix flake. Now i "just" need to create a systemd unit so i can include it as a service (currently its started manually for testing).
North County #Nix had its first 2025 meetup on April 20th!
Thanks to Connor, Grant, Tristan, and Dan for joining the fun!

How can a package with failing tests make it to stable? And a package as crucial as NodeJS at that? Really makes you wonder who is steering the ship at #nixos

I believe is customary re-post an introduction after moving instances... so here's mine:
Software engineer working in #geophysics. #8bit hacker in the 80s, #16bit hobbyist in the early 90s before finding my home on #unix and finally #linux. Author of a few simple open source utilities with zero users.
tech: #dragon32 #samcoupe #amiga #rust #python #neovim #debian #nixos
non-tech: #cycling #guitar #astronomy
I've got most of my computers building their #nixos config out of the same flake repo. I'm using just-flakes, no fancy config management framework. I'm almost far enough into the project to start writing up chunks of the work into blog posts!
flakes really don't exist.
Owning a Macbook Air now means I can repurpose the laptop (that I WAS going to make my primary #Windows mobile workstation for regular computer stuff) into a Linux one for play. The question is, do I go with #nixos/#nixbook or #fedora42 plasma - the latter is something I just have been wanting to install forever because it's stable and well respected. But then so is Mint. But then I've already "done" Mint. But then.. god.
@codemonkeymike CONVINCE ME of something here. Which DE is nixbook?
On the flip side, I figured out how to borrow a #NixOS module from the future!
disabledModules = [
"services/mail/stalwart-mail.nix"
];
And then I can add "${inputs.nixpkgs-unstable}/nixos/modules/services/mail/stalwart-mail.nix"
to my configuration's imports. This effectively replaces 24.11's module with unstable's.
This will be useful knowledge in the future, not just for playing with Stalwart!
Well, I'm back to #NixOS now. Makes more sense anyway.
Kinda surprised nobody has packaged cups-pdf for #nixos yet https://www.cups-pdf.de/
PDF printer for CUPS seemed quite common to me

Hello from Hachyderm! It's a new server, so how about a new #introduction? I'm a #Drupal dev and #Linux freak with an interest in #FOSS and experimental literature. I blog sometimes and am trying to carve out my own little home on the indie web.
I am the maintainer of the new Node Swapper module for Drupal (https://drupal.org/project/node_swapper) and I am currently returning to #NixOS and #KDE after a several year hiatus from both.
Hello! I'm looking forward to meeting all of the new folks on this server.
