Famine in the USA this fall? I think yes.

Brilliantly understandable argument by @sarahtaber right here:

But there's a much bigger global problem about to rear it's ugly head, I think.

We've been raised in the West to assume food is cheap and abundant, but we can't destroy nature and keep pretending that is a simple fact of life. As always, the underprivileged will be hit first and hardest.

MastodonSarah Taber (@sarahtaber@mastodon.online)This is a very big problem! You can do a trade war & cut off food imports. OR you can have a domestic farm sector that's given up on feeding its own country. You can't do both! But we are! We're doing both!

First proper session on the allotment in '25 & the uncomplicated dopamine swell of outdoor physical work on a spring day.

Lambs on the hillside already, tiny green buds on the gooseberry bush, and a perfect little ladybird overseeing proceedings. Immensely grateful that my not-always-easy-to-manage brain gets pleasure from all this, & hope you have your version to enjoy today too.

Trying to sell my hydroponic system. Don't have the heart to take it down

It has
- 1 Jalapeno pepper
- 1 Habanero pepper
- 1 serrano pepper
&
- 1 flower

2x12L dutch bucket systems and a 40L water reservoir, with 2 timers, one for the light and one for the pump.

The 17W LED light is from discontinued IKEA Växer system.

It's now full of pepper flowers and fruits.

I have a small balcony and been growing various vegetables in pots and bags.

This year, I'm cutting back before selling the apartment later. So I just growing some leafy vegetables, leak, garlic and strawberries.

Sadly I've seen a lot of them disappear and I've been unable to find any snails or slugs until today when I picked up a few leaves from a lettuce to make sandwiches..

And theryit was, the little slug hidden between the leaves waiting to get hungry and eating up one of my last remaining lettuce.

I have no idea how to get rid of them.
