This week I've been mainly reading, no. 228.

On one level Ruth Jones, novel of unstated love & love miss-told, Love Untold (2022) is a very readable romantic fiction, well put together & often compellingly written. But, for some reason, which I'm not quite able to put my finger on, it doesn't quite catch fire as a narrative, being in a sense less then the sum of its (at times excellent) parts. So well worth reading, but in some way lacking something....

🇬🇧 We wish you a happy #blackandwhiteFriday!

Gloves or no gloves - that's the question! Some say so, others say so. When looking at old and precious #books it naturally offers protection from greasy fingers and dirt. On the other hand, you have less feeling in your hands and occasionally tear the pages.

Either way, it is always a pleasure to hold a piece of history in your hands!

When the past comes back to haunt you. ‘The Danger of Life’ is a fast-paced thriller set in Scotland during World War Two. It uses many real settings, transported eight decades back in time.

The Rolls-Royce ‘shadow factory’ at Hillington has a central role in one strand of the story. It was established just before the war to produce Merlin aircraft engines. Parts of it remain standing and its scale is astounding.

Saw an email now from a book news site I follow, about how "spicy #romantasy" is getting more popular, and also more explicit, and wondering where do you draw the line between romance and #erotica.

To me, I think that no matter how explicit and graphic the sex in romance novels gets, at the end of the day the main point of romance is still... well, the romance. With erotica, I would think that while the romance might be there, it exists as a backdrop to or a way to justify the sex. The sex is front and centre, and there might not even be any actual love involved.

I could be wrong, but that'd be my gut-feel, off-the-cuff answer. :) #books @bookstodon

I finished this one last night. I had no idea how Darcy was as a writer but decided to buy this and see what this is. I expected a generic horror story but the story suddenly started to take unexpected turns and I was hooked. One of the best "haunted house"-stories I've ever experienced.
I will look more into Darcy's material, "From below" most likely next on the list that I will buy.
