Found a solution.

Create a user unit file in /etc/systemd/user, which can be enabled for loginctl linger-users, which just continuously watches on the Hugo content path …
i.e.

> systemctl enable --user --now hugo@$(systemd-escape $HOME/wwwroot/domain)

Continuous Build made easy.

My *coal free* "green" host @netcup sanctioned a AI SLOP PICTURE COMPETITION 💀

the buying an whole arm server idea does not sound bad at all anymore 💀
what the fuck, I just - a couple of months ago - got properly set-up :crywhy:

god dammit Netcup. im disappointed beyond belief

Goedemorgen ☀️

@mook personally, I'd rather want to see a #PHP-based, #WebHost-capable and #Tor-ready #ActivityPub client.

  • I'd even sacrifice a realtime #WebUI of that means #JavaScript can be ditched and it runs on #TorBrowser even in strictest setting out of the box. After all, there are enough good clients like #Tusky that can just interface via #API...

I mean, look at sites like #dread that run lick clockwork without #JS and even do self-hosted #CAPTCHA|s!

@mook @MastodonEngineering

I mean, #glitchsoc does already implement #markdown quite well...

As for the blocklists I know that such a feature may not be easy to implement - if at all - on a #Webhost-only / #CMS-alike #ActivityPub server software...

  • Which makes it even more important to make it a #mastodon feature that works from within the #UI as a #user and not require #admin privilegues or access to the #VPS it's being hosted on.

I'd gladly consider other options than #Mastodon if they don't result in feature-regression or other issues...

  • Sadly I've yet to find any option I'd consider feasible for self-hosting as I have way more pressing issues at hand and not enough time or money to setup stuff, and frankly if *just self-host' is being put up as answer something already is fecked up in terms of tech stack as having the freedom to choose managed hosters and self-hosting should always exist, and not just exclusivity with the maintainers...

@mook @MastodonEngineering Personally, I do want to see some #ActivityPub implementation that doesn't require a full #VPS to be setup can run off a basic #WebHost with a managed, permisionless #XAMPP / #LAMP stack like any decent #CMS developed in the last 20 years...

I would consider #SelfHosting but I've got more pressing things to do in my life and I'd rather chip in a donation to any instance I'd be using in the meantime...

  • And yes, you are correct that these basic Quality of Life Features should've been implemented ages ago!

A snapshot of my (prepaid) expenses so far this year using NearlyFreeSpeech.net to host my #Hugo and #Faircamp sites.

(the deposit fee is for dumping another 20 bucks in my account)

Leaving aside deposit fees and domain name registration, it costs me about $0.12 per day to run both sites as "production." I could with only a little effort consolidate them into one site and cut that in half. And "non-production" sites cost a fraction of this, even.

Guys... my new dedicated server #tabarnix is performing so well. It feels like all my websites (such as they are lol) can finally stretch out in the sun…

I just cancelled by accounts with Web Host Canada (should hopefully get a decent refund from them for the balance of the year) so the switch is now permanent.

I admit to being a little intimidated by learning Docker right now. Even though it seems pretty intuitive, I'm reluctant to just jam it onto my new server and I don't feel like I have the mental bandwidth to spin something else up as a trial. But I'll get there.

When I do, I'll be able to see about moving over this mastodon instance to #tabarnix from #FootiMac

For now, the trusty old iMac continues to perform its duties very admirably.
