→ OpenAI explores advertising as it steps up revenue drive
ft.com/content/9350d075-1658-4

“Advertising has been a highly successful route for big tech companies such as Google and Meta to monetise their huge online #audiences.”

“[Ad] models come with drawbacks, including the fact they are sensitive to swings in the broader #economic cycle, and that they tend to shift a company’s focus from pleasing their users to their #advertisers.”

I can't wait.

Stop children using #smartphones until they are 13, says French report
theguardian.com/world/2024/apr
"The hard-hitting report said #children needed to be protected from the #tech industry’s profit-driven “strategy of capturing children’s #attention, using all forms of #cognitive bias to shut children away on their #screens, control them, re-engage them and #monetise them”. [...] “We want [the industry] to know we’ve seen what they’re doing and we won’t let them get away with it.”"

Okay, great. Also glad we agree on the Scamazon.

We don't know how to sugarcoat this but basically the site you're linking to has Amazon trackers in the from of the images on the pages. They are served by Amazon in such a way as to make it quite possible in our view for Amazon to track someone as they access the site.

It is likely to mean that Amazon is able to #monetise a visitor's #resistance similar to other #postmodern era methods of cooption.
