It has been way to long since I listened to one of my #AOTY2024 contenders, the debut album of the young swedes of Xion.

Alright, metalheads, this one’s for you! Collecting a series of singles released last year plus a whole lot more, this kick ass thrash metal album is the debut from Swedish band Xion. There’s essentially no information on this band, there’s even only one review up on Encyclopaedia Metallum (which gives it a score of 85%). So I don’t have much to tell you other than: when I put it on, MetalheadDana asked if I was listening to Metallica; my dog asked to be let in (odd for a nice morning) and she promptly fell asleep right by the speaker; a number of bits made me break into a big smile; and the album is exactly as long as it takes me to get a batch of granola into the oven. So, if you like old-school thrash, if your pets like heavy metal, if you like smiling, and/or if you like tasty jams, give this one a spin. (Also, it’s one of only 3 albums we have on The List from 2024, so heads up to all of you who like making AOTY lists!)

What is going on this year? We are only two months in and there are already so many great (metal) releases.

There are also so many great debuts too, like the one I put on top of #TomsAOTY2024 list, the #ThrashMetal masterpiece from #Xion.
Or #Coltre with their 70s proto metal stuff, or #HandsOfGoro with their old-school #HeavyMetal

Also newcomers like Bruce Dickinson and Saxon delivered.

Fuck me these guys are great! And they seem to be between 18 and 20 years young???

I have no idea how he does it, but their singer sounds like James Hetfield, Joey Belladonna and Dave Mustaine. And if you don't like neither of those, don't worry, you will like this one anyhow
