This has been pretty successful week in my #selfhosting journey. I got #postgresql running early in the week. I then made my own personal database to play with and got databases running for #freshrss, #redmine, #vikunja, and finally #forgejo. Once I was happy with the setup I did pg_dumpall because I know today I'll probably get over confident and break something. First thing I'm going to do this morning is setup another postgresql #docker and make sure I understand how to import pg_dumpall.

For years I've only queried databases. Setting these up and seeing the data behind the applications has been lot of fun! The access to this data makes me highly motivated to use it in my own ways such as populating my personal database with various stats and then learning Python and Flask to build simple tools for myself.

So, TickTick, which I love and use religiously to keep track of everything, has started limiting free users to one inserted image a day. Boo. I tried the free MS ToDo app again, but entering text is slow as molasses. I stumbled upon the self-hosted Vikunja which is quite lovely.

All of that using my training wheels CapRover, so I don't have to know much of Docker and mainly reverse proxy. My domain I got from Spaceship (the same guys from Namecheap.

@milan Ist #Vikunja bei dir noch in der Testphase (so steht es nämlich auf der todo-Startseite)? Oder ist es gekommen um zu bleiben :D ?

I'm currently testing #Vikunja and it looks very promising. It needs some polishing (adding a subtask in the task that would not appear as another task), but overall it feels good.

@milan Is there any decision on the #vikunja instance yet? It read like you will not keep it in the longer run,but I still would be interested to manage some smaller short term projects over it, if it stays around for a while. (Sorry if I missed any announcement on that issue. I didn't find anything new when I searched for it.)

so, #vikunja ist jetzt ne vivaldi progressive web app bei mir, da ich es noch nicht geschafft habe zitadel von lokalen apps (in diesem szenario) zu überzeugen und ich das firefox plugin dafür nicht ans laufen bekomme ... endlich merkt sich das ding login und webclient einstellungen :P

und in typischer chromium fashion (ich dachte das wäre electron spezifisch) ist das dock icon zu groß ... das ist nicht nur ein gnome problem :/

looking at the number of stars, watchers and supporters, #vikunja surprises me ... i was expecting higher ones as i kept running into it for a few years now.
right now i am evaluating it at https://todo.tchncs.de for my personal workflow, but maybe i should just open it up. right now you can create your account using the tchncs auth server and ask me for getting whitelisted.
