It's day 20 of #AmigApril and Easter Sunday 🙂

For my last vacation I got a book from and about someone who made a lot of great Amiga games: Sid Meier! This is the story of his career in game design, beginning how he met Bill Stealey and founded Microprose until todays Firaxis days.

And to be true, the main reason this book got my attention is the fantastic pun in the title 😄

Explore, expand, exploit, and exterminate isn’t just a tactic employed by tech giants — it’s a genre of video game usually known as 4X. For Aftermath, Luke Plunkett extols the virtues and explores the problems of the 1994 PC game “Sid Meier’s Colonization.” “The narrative arc of 'Colonization' is as wafer-thin as America’s,” he writes. “You’re really just building your little video game America exactly the same way the real one was built. From the mass importation of religious fanatics, ruthless opportunists and murderous imperialists, to the seizure of vast tracts of land to the genocide of entire nations.”

I was wondering why #2K #Firaxis chose Greece as Machiavelli's nation in #Civilization7.

"His political philosophy on governance, power, and stability aligns well with Greek values."

In Book 7 of History of Florence, Machiavelli discusses the political evolution of Florence and other city-states, using examples like Greece to highlight lessons on maintaining power and stability, which align with his role in #Civ7.
