Yesterday I knew about #uxn and I knew some other things were plausible with roms and such... now I am drawing on a "me built" rooted sdcarded homebrewed nintendo #3dsxl because I can!
This is the new thing I needed to tinker with. LOL

Yesterday I tried to find a garage to fix the cracked exhaust manifold of our 19 years old #volkswagen T5 "Grandpa-Bus" we inherited last year... Yeah that was an unpleasant experience. All of them (including a volkswagen dealership) were - in different words - like "oh, that's sh***y job. we're not interested."
Main takeaways from this: 1) In our late #capitalism society something is broken on a very fundamental level when it is a tough job find a garage that will #repair something on a #car that is more complex than changing oil. And I really don't get behind it. 2) Don't drive #dieselbro vehicles with overly complex #internalcombustionengines! Driving #EV reduces stress. 3) I’m still undecided on what would be more sustainable: keeping an old #fossilfuel vehicle running since the resources have already been spent, or switching to something modern with no local #co2emissions.

Das Drahtwort, auch Drahtanschrift genannt, ist eine Telegramm(kurz)adresse, die früher besonders von Unternehmen verwendet wurde. Das Telegrafenamt konnte aus der Liste der vergebenen Drahtwörter die Empfängeradresse zuordnen. Da bei der Gebührenabrechnung von Telegrammen die Anzahl der Wörter maßgeblich war, konnte sich der Absender so die kostspielige Übertragung der vollständigen Adresse ersparen. Neben dem „Fernruf“ (der Telefonnummer) und der Fernschreibernummer war das Drahtwort ein Standardbestandteil im Briefkopf eines Unternehmens.
Eine Telegramm-Kurzanschrift kostete sowohl 1974 als auch 1986 monatlich 5 DM.

Looking for some more advanced techies to help me out here. I was browsing the files of old abandonware (as one does) and came across the .zym file format in a game called Gubble 2. Does anyone have any idea what this file format is? Is it something proprietary by the gubble devs? Something that just isn't used anymore? The only thing google brought up regarding .zym was some mods for quake.

I am Sinclair-Speccy, your resident computer nerd. I go by Sinclair, Speccy, Sinco, Altair, or even Alphonse. My primary interests are #RetroComputing, #OldTech, and #OStan. You’ll usually find me boosting retro tech content and occasionally posting it myself, mostly retro tech ads. I’m fascinated by vintage mainframes like the IBM 704, CDC 6500, and Whirlwind I as well as microcomputers such as the Altair 8800 and MK14, but I am not old enough to have ever used them in person.
I’ve moved around a bit online as I started on .art, then bitbang.social and now oldbytes.space. When not geeking out over computers I enjoy experimenting with older operating systems using emulators like 86Box, VirtualBox, Bochs, and QEMU or playing games such as the Sims 4, Sims 3, Arma 3 and Universe Sandbox. My interest in emulation all started when I managed to run Yggdrasil Linux from the '90s!
I also do 3D rendering in Bryce 3D which I mainly post on my account for my website (https://sakurajima.moe/@themainframe) which also hosts content on my 3 worldbuilding settings and I share some of my work on DeviantArt. One of my favourite niche fandoms is OS-tans which is turning operating systems and hardware into anime characters. I even have my own OS-tan universe that is hosted on my site.
Musically I vibe with #vaporwave, #synthwave, #darksynth,#phonk, and experimental music. Some favorite artists include Windows96, Dynatron, Carpenter Brut, KSLV Noh, and Frums.
As for some other stuff I enjoy #mythology, #transformers, #cats, #fantasy, #nature such as #flowers and #plants and #animals, #steampunk, a bit of #classicalmusic, #starwars, #photography, #art, #space, #cyberpunk and #scifi but you’re more likely to find that content on my other account.

Wrapping up my early “spring cleaning” of my office due to disassembling/re-assembling the closet in my office. I came across this fun artifact from DrupalCon 2018.
I’m going to tell future generations:
“Back in my day, we used an ancient technology called ‘the floppy disk’ to invite people to parties and other gatherings!”
Time for a memory upgrade on the #maclinuxbuild project. Per suggestion from @itsfoss I’m going to adding in 64GB of #ram Next up I’ll be eyeing a GPU for this.
