The Model Context Protocol acts as a universal translator between LLMs and data sources, eliminating complex platform-specific requirements. Our new open source MCP server for ODBC (mcp-odbc-server) enables seamless integration of any ODBC-accessible data into RAG pipelines.

#MCP#ODBC#SPARQL

Spent 2 days fighting with ODBC in C++ trying to get column-wise binding to work with variable length std::strings. So we can insert multiple rows in a single parameterised SQL statement. Have got it working with less exotic types like ints and even datetimes, but strings are proving to be a pita. Battle recommences tomorrow. #cpp #odbc

#libreoffice #qa #testing can be both extremely tiresome and immensely rewarding. Today's #FOSS reward comes with the pre-release of #libreoffice 7.5 on #macos #ventura. Making a #database connection over #ODBC now works again with the appropriate #drivers, and the #Xerial #JDBC driver 3.40.0.0 also enables read/write functionality to #sqlite3 #databases. Finally! All that remains is for these recently fixed features to be included in the #Appstore release! Fingers crossed!

@ascherbaum,

Quest:
Existence of an #ODBC binding for Mastodon that decouples it from #PostgresSQL.

#MySQL only comes into play due to our mysql2odbc library for decoupling MySQL apps.

Based on our expertise and 30+ years of experience re #DataAcces, #DataConnectivity (ODBC and #JDBC), and DBMS tech (see our #VirtuosoRDBMS), I know we can build such a binding if need be.

Initially though, I am curious about what may already exist rather than what’s possible 😊

@ascherbaum ,
I know what the #ODBC, #API, Database Management Systems (#DBMS), and #Databases are about.
FWIW — lookup #VirtuosoRDBMS a product I brought to life 32 years ago.
I’ve worked on #DataAccess, #DataConnectivty, and Data Management technology since the late 80’s.

If an ODBC binding for Mastodon doesn’t exist, I’ll simply get it built if need be.
My post was all about seeking what exists, rather than what’s possible (which I actually understand).

@el_pink,
In my experience, it’s suboptimal to write #DBMS specific apps and services.
I want to bind Mastodon to a #dbms that I already know is much faster and scalable that either #postgresql or #mysql amongst other goodies. It will also brings features like native full-text indexing, caching, and so much more.
I only need #odbc binding to unveil an additional option that ups the ante re performance and scalability per buck.
