The NPCA has calculated the Trump admin’s proposed cuts to the National Park Service budget could result in >75% reduction to the #NPS. With 433 national park units across the country, that'd essentially wipe out budgets & staffing for at least 350 national park units.

The admin’s recently released budget proposal calls for a cut of >$1B to the NPS -includes a $900M cut to the ops of our national parks...

The #State Dept in March ended its own #AirQuality monitoring program, which relied on sensors at >80 US embassies & consulates. That program largely operated in countries where such data was otherwise limited or unreliable.

Some #NPS employees had pushed back & urged #Trump ofcls to revoke the stop-work orders sent to the 2 contractors, acc/to the email & the 2 people familiar w/the matter.

…The program collects data on levels of harmful #air #pollutants, including #ozone & particulates, at the 63 #NationalParks in the US. Federal ofcls consult this data when deciding whether to grant permits to nearby industrial facilities, such as #PowerPlants or #oil refineries.

A view into a dense forest. This is the new National Park Service web camera site in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park. The image has trees from edge to edge and from top to bottom. The bend in the tree trunks is an effect of the lens used to gather these images. Trees include redwood, tanoak, madrone, and others. On the forest floor are ferns and sorrel. A bit of sky is visible along the upper edge.

"Everyone at (NRSS) resources science and stewardship for Intermountain region national park service just got fired" a message from my spouse yesterday. Heather Cox Richardson touched on it in her letter today, NPS staff not immediately visible to the public are being fired to prevent the outcry we saw earlier this year. DOGE runs Interior now. #NPS #USPol
