Oh, it was a broody day, that afternoon by Palouse Falls in Washington state.

The clouds built up and up, heavy in the sky, portentous of a mighty storm to come. And then there was a little break, enough for the sun to glance through, and the storm didn't seem so inevitable after all.

🌧️🔬 Did you know #clouds behave differently depending on where they form? A study by Alexa Renee Marcovecchio, Baike Xi, Xiaojian Zheng, Peng Wu, Xiquan Dong and Ali Behrangi compares clouds over the Southern Ocean and the Eastern North Atlantic and found striking differences in their thickness, drizzle frequency, and water content. Check out their dataset and article at doi.org/10.25422/azu.data.2374 and doi.org/10.1029/2022JD037109. Image: Stockcake
