Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>In other news, I have already put just under 8 hours on the machine and only dug one of three holes! I guess I am paying for another 8hrs! <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/GeologyMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GeologyMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/BackyardProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BackyardProject</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/PoolPond" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PoolPond</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/VancouverIsland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VancouverIsland</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/PortAlberni" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortAlberni</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Geology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Geology</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Rocks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rocks</span></a></p>
Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>Someone suggested mudstone or siltstone. This seems right. The more I dig and scrape at it the less I think it is some sort of old fill. When it is dry in the hole it is grey. There are lots of shards of carbon-like black stuff. But mostly it is grey, crumbly when knocked around, rock.<br>Here is this morning's look in the hole.</p><p>Whatever it is, it is too much for this digger to dig through efficiently.<br><a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/GeologyMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GeologyMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/BackyardProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BackyardProject</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/PoolPond" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PoolPond</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/VancouverIsland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VancouverIsland</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/PortAlberni" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortAlberni</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Geology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Geology</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Rocks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rocks</span></a></p>

Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>This is a special <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/LabourDay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LabourDay</span></a> for me as I am getting a little experience in the heavy mechanical trades! (Don’t worry I am doing it on my day off for fun!)<br>Just a reminder that all work should be valuable and valued! If you want to watch me make holes in the ground, and apparently find bedrock, tune in! I’ll be starting at 7AM!<br><a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/LabourDay" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LabourDay</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/BackyardProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BackyardProject</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/PoolPond" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PoolPond</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Geology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Geology</span></a><br><a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/GeologyMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GeologyMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://youtube.com/live/WQfJ09QWUbY?feature=share" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">youtube.com/live/WQfJ09QWUbY?f</span><span class="invisible">eature=share</span></a></p>
Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>This is what the Google Earth layer from the BC Government “Geological Bedrock” section says for our area.</p><p>I believe the yellow area corresponds to “Jurassic to Neogene_sedimentary rocks”. Third from the bottom in the list.</p><p> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/GeologyMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GeologyMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/BackyardProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BackyardProject</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/PoolPond" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PoolPond</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/VancouverIsland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VancouverIsland</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/PortAlberni" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortAlberni</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Geology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Geology</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Rocks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rocks</span></a></p>
Chris Alemany🇺🇦🇨🇦🇪🇸<p>Hey <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/GeologyMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>GeologyMastodon</span></a> may I get an assist in identifying this rock?! I believe I have hit bedrock about 1 metre down in my <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/BackyardProject" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>BackyardProject</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/PoolPond" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PoolPond</span></a> excavation.</p><p>It is a light grey to brown but has shiny black surfaces (I thought at first it was a bit of coal!) that can be scraped away with a fingernail. It flakes apart fairly easily but it is quite hard. It's definitely going to be the bottom of my hole!</p><p>We are on <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/VancouverIsland" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>VancouverIsland</span></a> in <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/PortAlberni" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PortAlberni</span></a><br><a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Geology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Geology</span></a> <a href="https://mstdn.chrisalemany.ca/tags/Rocks" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Rocks</span></a></p>
