One thing I'm noticing about the Fediverse, and even Dreamwidth, although I love being there, is that they contain large numbers of specific groups, including those with mental disabilities/problems, the tecnology, programming, and/or gaming obsessed, those who want to save the world or at least be involved in it, vegans, and the politically obsessed. It's driving me mad! Normally, I seek those who love luxury, literature, classical music, theatre, fashion (particularly antique menswear or at least suits and ties), general cooking and/or fine dining, wine, antiques, history, and high culture. But lately, I've been finding myself asking "where are the normal people"! I didn't include the pet, nature, garden, or science people, or even the photographers in my above description because I love them and they are why I'm still here. But I'd like to go through one day without reading about the evils of meat-eaters or capitalism and how it must be overthrown, quarrels regarding those who follow this or that politician, how this or that platform and owner there of is bad and why we need to get people off of it, people's mental problems, or wars in foreign countries! Please, if anyone can suggest accounts for me to follow, I would appreciate it!

@dandylover1 This is a joke, isn't it? Please tell me this is a joke. You have problems with people with mental disabilities? You prefer fashion and fine dining? Maybe the isn't for you.

@junglecat_rant No, it's not a joke. I have no problem with support groups, etc. I think they're great. But I have literally had total strangers start telling me their medical histories upon first meeting me, as if I were some kind of psychologist. Whatever happened to discussing interests, daily life, etc. especially with someone whom you don't even know! On Facebook, I constantly saw things about self-love, loneliness, anxiety, etc. and I couldn't relate to any of it. Why shouldn't I love myself? How can I be lonely when I could literally read libraries full of books, take courses, make friends, listen to music, watch films and plays, etc. online? Why should I be anxious about little things? Why can't I just find people who share common interests, who aren't political radicals in one way or another, and who are mentally stable? That doesn't seem like too much to ask. As for high culture, yes. I would absolutely love to find people who share those interests. It would be a pleasure to be able to converse with them on all manner of topics.
@junglecat_rant The difference between Facebook and Friendica is that, on Facebook, I had much more control over my newsfeed. If I blocked someone, I didn't see any of his posts or comments. If I wanted to see a conversation, I had to click on it first. It wasn't a jumbled mixture of conversations. Here, I have no way of shutting that off. I see conversations whether I want to or not. While I have an option to join all comments together to read the conversation in context, I can't turn it off. With some things, such as gaming, programming, etc. I either have no interest in it or just don't know about it. But with things such as politics, it's downright annoying as I specifically don't want to follow all of that.

@dandylover1 I don't know friend I a as client but usually there are a lot of filter settings that prevent your time line being overcrowded with stuff you are not interested in. My personsl feed contains only massages/posts from people or institutions I follow. I'm using Tusky for Android.
Unfortunately or fortunately I never used FB and I don't know how exactly they organized their feed.

@junglecat_rant I'm using TweeseCake. There are different timelines, but the problems still persist. Granted, I can narrow things a bit by not reading the Federated Timeline and reading Home and Notifications, but it's still scattered and I still see various conversations. I know Friendica has circles, but I've never really delved into those. As for Facebook, I use the Basic Mobile site (not app), which was very accessible and uncluttered. Their main page is a mess, and since they shut down the Basic Mobile version, I haven't really posted there.
