Alcantara Gorge 11, Francavilla di Sicilia, Sicily, Italy
Several thousand years ago, the river bed was blocked by a lava flow from Mount Etna. As the lava was cooled much more quickly by the water than it would have done otherwise, it crystallised in the form of columns. Over the next millennia, the river naturally eroded a channel through these columns, resulting in impressive gorges and ravines, such as the Alcantara Gorges (Gole dell'Alcantara) next to Francavilla di Sicilia, where the Peloritani mountains end. – Wikipedia

@douglaswelch The image depicts a rocky riverbed with a small stream flowing through it. The river is bordered by large, dark gray rocks with a rough texture, creating a natural pathway for the water. The water appears clear and is moving gently, with small ripples visible in some areas. The surrounding landscape is lush with green vegetation, including shrubs and grasses, which grow on the rocky terrain. In the background, rolling hills are visible under a cloudy sky, adding depth to the scene. The overall color palette is dominated by shades of gray from the rocks, green from the vegetation, and blue from the water, creating a serene and natural setting.
