Goed verhaal in De Groene:

We worden steeds meer verleid en verplicht om altijd online te zijn door continu dat communicatie- en identificatie-apparaatje bij ons te dragen. Wie niet mee wil doen, wordt de toegang tot publieke ruimtes en diensten ontzegd, maar er is ook verzet:

Pompeius Occo, Dirck Jacobsz, c. 1531
Pompeius Occo developed into a key figure in the Northern European economy and was one of Amsterdam’s most prosperous residents. From around 1511, he represented the successful banking and trading house of the Augsburg Fuggers in this emerging metropolis. Occo’s portrait expresses the generally prevailing awareness that all worldly prosperity is transient. His left hand rests almost tenderly on a skull.

A Coastal Ruin in Italy, Jan Asselijn, 1640 - 1652
A favourite motif of the Italianates was a small harbour on the Mediterranean Sea with a crumbling quay and a ruin. At right are an African man and a couple of Turkish traders. At the left, a man in northern European clothing gestures out to sea. Overseas trade stimulated an interest for such scenes among Dutch collectors, even though the views were imaginary.
