Another truckers wallet under construction. 2 more cover panels to be carved, internal pockets to be cut and stitched, then closure fittings to be added, front and back stitched together, edges trimmed, sanded and burnished, then whole stained and sealed. Be another week or so i guess. Good to do in this wet weather.

Crocodile on outside cover, still needs colouring. Then 2 more panels for birds.

Back from my family weekend, I'm stocking up to prepare for the reopening of my website. Not many photos for now but a few belts in progress including this "wood style" which I'm very proud of, or some like these vegetal motifs dyed in different colors.
In terms of belt dye, would you be more classic (brown, cognac) or more adventurous (green, red, etc...)?

Empezando de nuevo (por tercera vez ya) en mastodon, neopaquita edition:

Artesana española enfocada en el cuero, especializada en recreación fantástica y fumadas raras en general, frikadas, rol en vivo y softcombat, Jack of all trades master of none, antigua forjadora de gomaespuma, sospechosa de neurodivergencia y, sobre todo, muy fangirl de mis mierdas.

Crafteo 100% con estas manitas cosas que intento que parezcan cualquier material menos lo que es. A veces incluso lo consigo.

Collage de dos fotos en formato vertical. La primera, un yelmo de cuero verde visto desde un lado con cenefas decorativas labradas en los bordes y pintadas de dorado; remachada a cada lado, una hilera de hojas hechas también en cuero y pintadas en diferentes tonos otoñales y, aunque no se puede apreciar en esta foto, también en el frontal sobre la protección del ceño; el yelmo está colocado sobre un busto de cabeza y parte de torso hecho en cuero, para que se vea cómo queda puesto. La segunda foto es una foto mía llevando una armadura completa de fantasía inspirada en las valquirias, cuero rojo con múltiples decoraciones en dorado. La armadura se compone de semicoraza, corset, escarcelas anudadas al bajo del corset, hombreras unidas con correas a la semicoraza, brazales, grebas y una tiara alada. Las decoraciones se componen de nudos simples en los bordes de las hombreras y escarcelas y en el frontal de la tiara, una espada y un escudo hechos con nudos y runas futhark en el centro de la semicoraza, y dragones serpiente entrelazados en el frontal del corset, los brazales y las grebas. Además, porto en las manos un escudo y una lanza de inspiración vikinga

In a few hours, I'll be on the TGV to go back to my parents' house in Périgord this weekend (lovely region by the way^^). It's the opportunity to share here some of my best creations made for my family members over the years, because being a crafts(wo)man helps a lot with gifts!

Wood and vegtan leather treasure box decorated with Cthulhu which my uncle is a fan of ! Made for last Christmas.
Vegtan leather phone case, tooled with an ammonite pattern that my other uncle collects and hand-dyed in cognac color.
Little tooling of my paternal uncle's tractor on vegtan leather, again for a brown belt commissionned and gifted by my first cousin !

Setting hides characteristics aside (this black leather is much more stiff and always gives me a hard time molding, and this time I even had my hand sore for a full week), I have to say, even though I found myself comfier with the edges first system, the fullers first ended up being a faster system, because it requires less retouches later. Also, fullers looks better being less profound than edges

Making a wee quiver for myself: first time working with leather, and I reaaaaaaly love it. I'm going to miss this little group of weirdos when I'm gone :ablobcatraindepressed: I'm learning so much from them and having such a lovely time every weekend.

Spoilering because the first image is of a leather hide that clearly belonged to an animal and that can be upsetting for some folks

I don't think enough attention is paid to the humble leather handle.
These handles take many steps and much time to complete but will last generations. Two handles are cut, along with four pieces of stiff leather filler. The hardware is riveted onto the handles. The filler pieces are glued over these rivets on either sides of the handles. The filler pieces are trimmed, top and bottom to even them out and round the tops. A rectangular piece of leather is "cased" (dampened with water), formed around each handle and stretched to accommodate the curves. These are clamped and allowed to dry. The handles are dyed to coordinate with the case they being fastened to, stitching holes are punched and then the covering is stitched on with contrasting waxed thread. The raw edge, along the top, is trimmed, sanded even and smooth and then edge finished to seal and refine. #LeatherCraft #handles #HandMade #Bags #Cases
Six pieces of vegetable tanned leather, grain side up. They are shaped like horseshoes with the tips cut off. Two have longer ends that have been folded back onto themselves to hold brass "D" rings. These are riveted into place with the round end of the "D" inside the fold.
The same pieces of leather however the pieces without the hardware are glued onto each side of the pieces with the hardware. This makes two handles with a piece of filler leather on each side of each handle, three pieces of leather each. The ends are clamped into place with green and black spring clamps whilst the glue dries.
Two handles with a thin rectangular piece of vegetable tanned leather beside them. One handle has had leather wrapped around it and this leather is held in place with small, clear spring clamps. The other handle does not have a wrapping but shows signs of having been trimmed to round its shape. It should be understood by the composition of the photo that the rectangular piece of leather will be wound around the handle that has not yet been wrapped.
Two handles, one with ends facing up and one with ends facing down, that have had their wrapping stitched onto them and have been dyed mahogany brown.
