My latest idea: #Vibe Writing.
For illiterate people, who don't want to learn to write.
You just tell #ChatGPT (using voice to text e.g. SuperWhisper) what kind of document you want written and then just accept it without reading it - because you can't!
Genius.
I don't see any way this could be problematic.

Those in power of a #genai service can control the results. Recently, #openai turned down for how much the machine, #chatgpt should praise the user. Now, this study on political values shows they've turned up for the right-winged values;
'Our findings reveal that while newer versions of ChatGPT consistently maintain values within the libertarian-left quadrant, there is a statistically significant rightward shift in political values over time.'

Nature“Turning right”? An experimental study on the political value shift in large language models - Humanities and Social Sciences CommunicationsConstructing artificial intelligence that aligns with human values is a crucial challenge, with political values playing a distinctive role among various human value systems. In this study, we adapted the Political Compass Test and combined it with rigorous bootstrapping techniques to create a standardized method for testing political values in AI. This approach was applied to multiple versions of ChatGPT, utilizing a dataset of over 3000 tests to ensure robustness. Our findings reveal that while newer versions of ChatGPT consistently maintain values within the libertarian-left quadrant, there is a statistically significant rightward shift in political values over time, a phenomenon we term a ‘value shift’ in large language models. This shift is particularly noteworthy given the widespread use of LLMs and their potential influence on societal values. Importantly, our study controlled for factors such as user interaction and language, and the observed shifts were not directly linked to changes in training datasets. While this research provides valuable insights into the dynamic nature of value alignment in AI, it also underscores limitations, including the challenge of isolating all external variables that may contribute to these shifts. These findings suggest a need for continuous monitoring of AI systems to ensure ethical value alignment, particularly as they increasingly integrate into human decision-making and knowledge systems.

🇬🇧 Maybe you have seen vagueposting about #Wikipedia or the #Wikimedia Foundation falling for the #AIHype and implementing "AI".

Here's what it's actually about:

https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Strategy/Multigenerational/Artificial_intelligence_for_editors

TL;DR: Wikimedia is not putting generated content onto Wikipedia.

They are currently thinking about exploring the idea of maybe in the future providing optional, LLM-assisted tools for moderators and editors to relieve them of repetitive management tasks.

This might include automated vandalism detection, showing a quality prediction score, or showing what reading level the article is at.

Nothing has been implemented yet, this is just an exploration of a possible future strategy, and they keep stressing that human-curated knowledge will still be the only content on Wikipedia.

The only negative option I personally see is that they're thinking about showing an option to auto-translate articles that don't exist in a language yet using LLMs. I think one of the largest advantages of multi-lingual Wikipedia projects is that each language version also shows different content based on what's relevant for each culture; e. g. the German article about "emergency services" will talk at length about the situation in Germany, Austria and Switzerland while the English one is very US- and UK-centric. Reducing that to a simple word-for-word translation undervalues local Wikipedia projects, I think.

I'm reading The Lost Princess by #GeorgeMacDonald and in one paragraph he starts off by saying that there is a fire made of fir-wood and by the end of the paragraph refers to it as a peat fire.

#ChatGPT informs me that fir-wood is fast burning and was often used in #Scotland to get a fire started while peat was long-burning and thus would be added to the fire thereafter.

It seems logical, but ChatGPT has also struggled to provide me with clear references to this information.

Curious if anyone is familiar with whether this was/is so? I'd like something to depend upon beyond the words of generative AI. 😂

Mensch, eben fast kollabiert vor Lachen. Ich habe ChatGPT gefragt, ob es mir ein kurzes Gedicht zur Jugendweihe meiner Nichte dichten kann. Dabei kam das raus:

"Asking scientists to identify a paradigm shift, especially in real time, can be tricky. After all, truly ground-shifting updates in knowledge may take decades to unfold. But you don’t necessarily have to invoke the P-word to acknowledge that one field in particular — natural language processing, or NLP — has changed. A lot.

The goal of natural language processing is right there on the tin: making the unruliness of human language (the “natural” part) tractable by computers (the “processing” part). A blend of engineering and science that dates back to the 1940s, NLP gave Stephen Hawking a voice, Siri a brain and social media companies another way to target us with ads. It was also ground zero for the emergence of large language models — a technology that NLP helped to invent but whose explosive growth and transformative power still managed to take many people in the field entirely by surprise.

To put it another way: In 2019, Quanta reported on a then-groundbreaking NLP system called BERT without once using the phrase “large language model.” A mere five and a half years later, LLMs are everywhere, igniting discovery, disruption and debate in whatever scientific community they touch. But the one they touched first — for better, worse and everything in between — was natural language processing. What did that impact feel like to the people experiencing it firsthand?

Quanta interviewed 19 current and former NLP researchers to tell that story. From experts to students, tenured academics to startup founders, they describe a series of moments — dawning realizations, elated encounters and at least one “existential crisis” — that changed their world. And ours."
