This week on the blog I'm taking you to the world of Slavic mythology, presenting one of my favourite ancient deities - Veles, the god of forests, animals, and the underworld.

To learn about him, visit grammaticus.blog/2023/09/06/ve

@grammaticus Do you have any good places to start reading up on Slavic mythology? I know little about it and would like to get an overview if it exists.

@elsteve0grande sure! One of the first books I read on the subject was Jan Machal's Slavic Mythology, which you can find in the 3rd volume of The Mythology of All Races - a bit outdated, but a nice overview. You can download the ebook in various formats from here: archive.org/details/mythologya

Another good intro is Louis Leger's Slavic Mythology, it should also be available on archive.org or elsewhere, although I'm not sure if there's an English translation (it was originally written in French).
