I've been very lazy lately about social media... but, nevermind, here's Yen introducing me to her kiddo the first time a month ago! I believe something happened and the first attempt failed, and Yen vanished again for a certain amount of time, then returned one day, and some time later both parents showed up with this small one, a bit late for the usual breeding season, but aawww, so cute!

@corvid My neighbourhood crows, vreni and Peter did the same to me. Last year, their preparations were unusccessful. This year, out of nowhere, Vreni and Peter brought two juveniles to the chimney opposite my flat. I never noticed any change in their behaviour but they managed to produce a family

@ZurichCrowCollective I did notice, Yen vanished a second period of time and when she returned, she was in a really, really baaaaad mood. Grumpy and annoyed and very impatient. But since the little one is flying around, she's happy again and really sweet and proud. Her head feathers fluff up in a special form whenever the small is with her, it's obviously her 'This is my kiddo!' expression. I saw them all three together teaching the small one how to hunt insects in the grass.

@corvid That's great news. Obviously when they fail in producing or rearing chicks, their behaviours change but this year, I saw both crows all year round and never saw them ferrying sticks and twigs to build a nest. It was a nice surprise but they can be noisy
