A throw back to two summers ago. This was amazing getting to watch these hawks fledge so up close and personal. For a few weeks the backyard was hawks all the time
What a fabulous opportunity @Catlynn
@scozmos we’ve had fledglings the last three years in a row, but two years ago there were a LOT of them It’s very neat to watch
@ianmnoone @loren I think they are Cooper’s but I could definitely be wrong
@Catlynn @loren Honestly, they're hard to differentiate, but I generally go by: pigeon-sized = sharp-shinned, larger than that = Cooper's. We actually had a Cooper's get into our chicken yard recently through a gap in the mesh cover.
They're not quite as effective at hunting when they lose the moment of surprise, so my smallest and feistiest hen went on the attack while my husband was trying to shoo it out and also not get attacked by the rooster. I have since zip-tied the gaps closed to prevent a repeat
@Catlynn wonderful time!
